Flash floods sweep passenger van in Balochistan, 15 missing

Rescue Teams Race Against Time as Floods Cut Off Key Roads and Highways Across the Region

Balochistan – (Web Desk) – Heavy rains lashed Balochistan on Wednesday, triggering severe flooding that caused widespread destruction across Qila Abdullah and Gulistan districts. The disaster has left authorities in a race against time to save lives and manage the growing crisis.

In one of the most alarming incidents, a van carrying 15 passengers was swept away by raging floodwaters in the Habibzai area of Gulistan tehsil. Around the same time, a truck loaded with food supplies was also carried off by the powerful currents at the same location. Rescue teams have been deployed and are working urgently to locate the missing passengers feared trapped in the floodwaters.

The situation in Qila Abdullah is equally dire. The river flowing through the district has swelled to a dangerous level, prompting authorities to shut down the busy Quetta-Chaman Highway to prevent further risk to lives. Several key link roads connecting Toba Achakzai, Khanozai and Gulistan have also been closed to all traffic as flooding continues to block and damage road networks across the region.

Local district administration officials are on high alert, coordinating emergency response efforts as the scale of destruction continues to grow. Residents in low-lying areas have been urged to stay vigilant as more rain is expected in the coming hours.

Officials reported that numerous passenger vehicles have become stranded in rain-fed streams in Pishin and Toba Achakzai, prompting the administration to issue a high alert.

The situation remains critical as heavy rains continue, leaving tractors and other vehicles trapped in floodwaters at multiple locations. Authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from flooded areas.
