Fazlur Rehman Appeals for Political Unity Amid Weakening Government Control

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) leader MaulFazlur Rehman Appeals for Political Unity Amid Weakening Government Controlana Fazlur Rehman has urged the government to postpone the proposed constitutional amendments until after the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

Islamabad-During a press conference held in the capital on Tuesday, Fazlur Rehman also appealed to the opposition to pause their protests in order to maintain political stability during the international event.

Addressing the media, the JUI-F chief stressed the importance of a more thoughtful and extended process for constitutional changes, citing the example of the 18th Amendment, which required nine months of thorough discussions before a consensus was reached among all parties.

“The government informed me these amendments are being rushed, but I question the need for such urgency in pushing constitutional changes through in an emergency,” he said. “If force is used to impose these amendments, we will firmly resist.”

He further pointed out that the government’s control in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan seems to be diminishing, urging that the current political rifts be turned into an opportunity for unity.

“Our country’s current situation demands careful attention. The government’s writ in these provinces has weakened,” he remarked, calling for patience and a focus on building consensus.

Fazlur Rehman also expressed concern over the suspension of the registration process for religious seminaries, accusing the government of spreading misinformation. “If the government has made demands, then it must also listen to ours,” he insisted.

When questioned about potential political moves within his party, the JUI-F leader denied any internal disunity, clarifying that no members of his party had defected.

He reaffirmed his opposition to political “match-fixing” and horse-trading, emphasizing his party’s discipline. He also made it clear that there was no agreement in place for a joint protest with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Turning to international matters, Maulana Fazlur Rehman expressed deep concern over Israel’s continued aggression against Palestinians, criticizing the Muslim Ummah’s silence on the issue. He called this silence “troubling.”

“Israel is committing state-sponsored terrorism while the Muslim Ummah watches in silence. This silence must be broken,” he declared, accusing Israel of using Western and American weapons to pursue its military objectives.

He also noted that the conflict has expanded to Lebanon, where prominent Muslim leaders are being targeted.

Fazlur Rehman called for unity among Muslim countries, urging them to take a stand against Israel’s “brutality and bloodshed.” He stressed, “The Muslim Ummah must act now to end this terror,” calling for immediate and decisive action.
