Pakistan Launches Massive Anti-Polio Drive with International Partners' Support
Islamabad_(Staff Reporter)-Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif marked International Literacy Day with a call to action, urging the nation to support the government’s efforts in promoting literacy and ensuring education for all. He emphasized the importance of building a bright future for children and the country, stating that literacy is a fundamental human and constitutional right that guarantees the future of Pakistan.
The Prime Minister highlighted that literacy is not just about reading and writing, but a gateway to empowerment, economic opportunities, and active participation in society. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing the education agenda, striving for a more informed and sustainable nation.
To achieve this goal, the government has declared an educational emergency, launched an enrollment campaign, and initiated mid-day meals for children in schools. Scholarships and incentives have also been introduced to reduce the dropout rate and encourage every child to complete their education.
Recognizing the importance of technology in today’s world, the Prime Minister noted that the government is implementing a comprehensive plan to integrate technology into the educational system, equipping youth with necessary skills to thrive in the digital economy.
He emphasized the importance of partnerships between the government, private sector, and civil society organizations to link education with employment and self-employment opportunities, creating a stronger and more inclusive workforce.

Special Anti-Polio Drive Kicks Off: 30 Million Children to be Vaccinated Across 115 Districts,
Shehbaz Sharif launched a special anti-polio campaign on Sunday, aiming to eradicate polio from Pakistan. The campaign will cover 115 districts, vaccinating 30 million children under five against the debilitating disease. From September 9 to 15, 286,000 polio workers will go door-to-door to administer polio drops.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to international partners and organizations supporting the government’s efforts. He expressed optimism that the federal and provincial governments, along with partners, will succeed in completely eradicating polio.
PM Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to federal and provincial officials, polio workers, and security personnel fighting against polio. He urged parents to ensure their children under five receive the polio vaccine to protect them from lifelong disability.
The launch ceremony was attended by senior officials, representatives from the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the Gates Foundation, and the United Nations. The Prime Minister personally administered polio drops to children, demonstrating his commitment to the cause.
