KP & Islamabad – (Web Desk) – An earthquake Islamabad today 2026 shook the federal capital along with Peshawar and several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday morning, the Seismic Monitoring Centre confirmed. The quake measured 5.7 on the Richter scale and caught many residents off guard.
People in Islamabad and Peshawar felt strong shaking. Tremors were also reported in Swat, Nowshera, Shangla, and Buner. Thankfully, no deaths, injuries, or property damage were reported right away.
Officials said the epicentre of the quake was traced to the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border area. The quake started deep underground, at a depth of around 170 kilometres, which is why it was felt across such a wide area without causing major destruction.
Pakistan sits on the meeting point of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. This makes the country one of the most earthquake-prone regions in the world. Earlier this month, tremors also hit Karachi and other parts of the country.

This year alone has seen significant seismic activity. In February 2026, a 5.8-magnitude quake shook Islamabad, Swat, and Hunza. Going further back, the devastating 2005 earthquake in Azad Kashmir took more than 73,000 lives and left millions without shelter. In 2021, Balochistan’s Harnai district was hit hard, with landslides making rescue work even harder.
Experts continue to urge the government and local communities to stay prepared. Pakistan’s mountainous terrain makes disaster response difficult, which is why early warning systems and public awareness are so important.
