Earthquake in Pakistan Today: 5.4 Magnitude Tremors Hit Wide Areas from Hindu Kush

KP & Islamabad – (Web Desk) – A 5.4 magnitude earthquake in Pakistan today shook large parts of the country on Monday, sending tremors across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Punjab. The seismological centre confirmed the epicentre was located in the Hindu Kush mountain range in Afghanistan.

The earthquake struck at a depth of 215 kilometres, according to the seismological centre.

People across many cities and towns in KP felt the shaking. Tremors were reported in Peshawar, Swat, Buner, Hangu, Shangla, Kohat, Mohmand, Shabqadar, Bajaur, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Swabi and Dera Ismail Khan.

Residents of Tank city and nearby areas also felt the tremors. The shaking was also reported in Upper South Waziristan, Lower South Waziristan and various parts of Wana.

In Punjab, people in Multan and surrounding areas reported feeling the earthquake. Rawalpindi and Islamabad were also among the cities affected by Monday’s tremors.

Rescue authorities confirmed that tremors were felt across multiple districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They urged the public to call 1122 immediately in case of any emergency.

No casualties or property damage were reported at the time of this report.

Pakistan sits on the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. This location makes the country highly prone to earthquakes. The country has faced several deadly quakes over the past few decades.
