ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has initiated strict action against the expanding online trade of unapproved and smuggled medicines, following reports of increasing violations across digital platforms.
In official correspondence, DRAP has urged the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to block access to multiple websites and social media pages allegedly involved in the illegal sale and promotion of unregistered therapeutic products. These platforms are said to be targeting consumers through aggressive online marketing.
Documents from March and April 2026 reveal that DRAP’s Quality Assurance and Laboratory Testing division identified several websites and social media accounts advertising unregistered medicines, particularly those related to sexual health, weight management, and other medical conditions.

Health officials stated that the surge in online advertising of prescription-only and psychotropic medicines is a growing concern, as such products are being promoted directly to the public without proper medical oversight. Authorities warned that self-medication encouraged through these channels poses serious health risks.
DRAP has also appealed to the public to avoid purchasing medicines from unauthorized online sources and cautioned pharmacies against selling unregistered products, stressing that strict legal action will be taken against violations.
