Donald Trump Announces Tariffs on Oil and Gas, Set to Take Effect on February 18

Trump emphasized that while these tariffs may cause short-term disruptions

WASHINGTON: Former U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that tariffs will be imposed on oil and gas starting February 18. In a recent media interaction, Trump also confirmed that tariffs would be extended to steel, aluminum, and copper, with the European Union facing similar trade measures.

Trump emphasized that while these tariffs may cause short-term disruptions, he is not concerned about the market’s response. He further stated that ongoing discussions with Russia are “serious,” while expressing dissatisfaction with Canada’s stance. Trump asserted that Canada, Mexico, and China would not be able to counter the effects of the new tariffs.

In addition, Trump criticized the Biden administration, accusing the Department of Justice of politically motivated actions during his tenure. This announcement follows the White House’s earlier decision to impose a 25% tariff on Mexico and Canada, as well as a 10% tariff on China, starting February 1.

This move marks a continued shift in trade relations, particularly targeting key international trade partners, signaling an escalation in the ongoing trade tensions under Trump’s broader “America First” agenda.
