Deadly 7.1 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Tibet, Death Toll Rises to 32
Aftershocks Follow 7.1 Magnitude Earthquake, Tremors Felt Across Bihar, Assam, and West Bengal
LHASA – A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 on the Richter scale struck Tibet early this morning, close to the Nepalese border, resulting in the tragic deaths of at least 32 people. The earthquake, which occurred at 6:35 am local time, sent shockwaves across the region, causing panic among residents.
The tremors were also felt in several Indian states, including Bihar, Assam, and West Bengal, leading to widespread anxiety. In the aftermath, two aftershocks were reported, a 4.7 magnitude earthquake at 7:02 am, followed by a 4.9 magnitude tremor at 7:07 am, further rattling the affected regions.
Despite the intensity of the quakes, authorities have reported no significant damage to property. Emergency response teams are currently on the ground, assessing the full scale of the destruction and providing relief to those affected.
The earthquake comes as the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates continue to collide in this geologically volatile region, which is known for its seismic activity. People across Tibet were quick to evacuate their homes, and the region remains on high alert for any further seismic events.
