Court Delays Verdict in £190 Million Case Against Imran Khan & Bushra Bibi

Imran Khan Faces Legal Challenges as £190M Case Verdict Delayed Again

RAWALPINDI: An accountability court in Rawalpindi has once again deferred the verdict in the high-profile £190 million case against former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, marking the third postponement of the judgment. Originally scheduled for Monday, January 6, 2025, the court has rescheduled the verdict for later, with lawyers set to be informed of the new date tomorrow.

The case, known as the Al-Qadir Trust case, involves accusations from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) that Khan, his wife, and others caused a significant loss to the national exchequer through a controversial settlement between the PTI-led government and a property tycoon. According to NAB, the settlement led to the alleged misuse of £190 million, which was initially sent by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the Pakistani government.

The legal proceedings began after NAB filed its reference in December 2023, alleging that Khan and others facilitated the tycoon’s black money dealings and secured land worth billions in return. This land was later used to establish the Al-Qadir Trust, which is central to the allegations.

The trial has lasted for over a year, during which NAB recorded testimonies from key witnesses, including former Principal Secretary Azam Khan, ex-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, and former Federal Minister Zubaida Jalal. The case has also seen the replacement of four judges and the declaration of several co-accused as absconders.
