Citizen Detained for Alleged Anti-State Social Media Posts

The posts were allegedly against the state and its security institutions

Layyah: On December 8, 2024, Karor Police registered an FIR (No. 1581/24) under Sections 16 of the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960, and 124-A of the Pakistan Penal Code against Sheikh Zakar Ahmad, son of Sheikh Muhammad Firdous, a resident of Chak No. 100B/TDA, on charges of sharing anti-state content on Facebook.

According to the report filed by Constable Niaz Ahmed (Security Constable 844/C), the suspect was identified during routine security duty near Chandi Mor in Karor. Ahmed, along with Constable Talib Hussain (875/C) and Head Constable Shoukat Hussain (52/HC), observed provocative posts on a Facebook account under the name “Sh. Zakar Ahmad.” The posts were allegedly against the state and its security institutions, inciting public unrest and rebellion.

Screenshots of the posts were taken as evidence, and a preliminary investigation confirmed that the Facebook account belonged to Sheikh Zakar Ahmad. The suspect allegedly used the platform to spread anti-state propaganda and called for boycotts of security institutions.

The police have launched an investigation and forwarded the case to the relevant authorities. The SHO of Karor Police Station has been notified, and further legal proceedings are underway.
