Helicopter Crash Ladakh: General and Two Pilots Safe After Accident
Cheetah helicopter – (Web Desk) – A Cheetah helicopter crash Ladakh sector has left a senior Indian Army officer and two pilots injured. The incident took place on May 20 in the high-altitude Ladakh region. All three are reported to be stable and out of danger.
The injured officer has been identified as Division Commander Major General Sachin Mehta. He even took a selfie after the crash, which quickly went viral on social media. Both pilots who were on board also sustained injuries but are receiving proper medical care.
The Indian Army has launched a court of inquiry to find out what caused the accident. The Cheetah helicopter was on a routine operation in the Ladakh sector when the crash occurred. Full details about the incident are still being gathered.
This crash has once again put the spotlight on the aging Cheetah helicopter fleet. These helicopters have been flying since the 1970s and have been part of several deadly accidents over the years. Many pilots have lost their lives in such incidents.
The good news is that India is now moving forward. The Cheetah fleet is being replaced by the Light Utility Helicopter, developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The Indian Army has already ordered six of these modern helicopters. The new LUH can fly at 220 kmph, reach a height of 6.5 km, and cover 350 km on a single flight.
