Cason Wallace Agrees to $139 Million Thunder Extension
Thunder Reward Defensive Standout Cason Wallace With $139 Million Extension
ISLAMABAD: (Sports Desk) – The Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed to a five-year contract extension worth $139 million with guard Cason Wallace, according to multiple reports published Sunday night. ESPN first reported the deal, citing Wallace’s agents at Excel Sports Management.
Wallace, who will turn 23 on November 7, earned a place on the NBA All-Defensive Second Team last season after leading the league with 150 steals. He is set to earn $7.42 million during the 2026-27 season before his new contract takes effect.
The young guard recorded career-best averages of 8.6 points, 2.6 assists and 1.9 steals per game last season. He appeared in 77 games, including 58 starts, while averaging 26.6 minutes on the court.
Wallace has become an increasingly important part of Oklahoma City’s plans following the offseason trade of fellow perimeter defender Lu Dort to the Atlanta Hawks.
Thunder president Sam Presti discussed the organisation’s confidence in Wallace in September, describing the decision to trade Dort as a sign of the team’s belief in the young guard’s ability to take on a larger role.
Wallace entered the NBA as the 10th overall pick in the 2023 draft after playing college basketball at Kentucky. The Dallas Mavericks initially selected him before trading his rights, along with Davis Bertans, to Oklahoma City in exchange for the draft rights to Dereck Lively II.
Across 227 regular-season appearances, Wallace has averaged 7.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.5 steals in 24.7 minutes per game.
He has also featured in 48 playoff games, averaging 6.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals in 22.7 minutes per game.
The contract extension reflects Oklahoma City’s reported commitment to retaining Wallace as a key part of its future, following the franchise’s NBA championship victory in the 2024-25 season.
