Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau Warns Trump Over Potential Tariffs

ISLAMABAD: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has issued a stern warning to U.S. President Donald Trump, stating that Canada will respond strongly if unjust tariffs are imposed on the country.

Trudeau highlighted that Canada has invested $1.3 billion in strengthening its border security to combat smuggling, particularly targeting the flow of fentanyl drugs into the U.S. He pointed out that less than one percent of the fentanyl reaching the U.S. comes from Canada, and emphasized Canada’s commitment to further reducing this.

This warning follows President Trump’s announcement that the U.S. will impose a 25% tariff on imports from both Canada and Mexico. Experts believe that if the U.S. moves forward with these tariffs, Canada will likely take retaliatory economic measures, which could damage trade relations between the two countries and disrupt their economies.

The imposition of tariffs could create significant trade barriers, negatively impacting the bilateral trade between the U.S. and Canada.
