Brook Elects to Field as England Aim for Series Win Against West Indies in 2nd ODI
The final match of the series will be played at The Oval on Tuesday.
Cardiff: England captain Harry Brook won the toss and chose to field in the second one-day international (ODI) against the West Indies at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, as his side looks to seal the three-match series following a dominant 238-run victory in the first ODI at Edgbaston.
Brook, leading England in his first series as permanent white-ball captain, said the green-tinged surface influenced his decision. “We’re going to have a bowl,” said Brook at the toss. “It looks like there’s a bit of grass on the wicket so hopefully we can get something out of it early on.”
England made one change to their playing XI, with pacer Matthew Potts coming in for Jamie Overton, who was ruled out after suffering a broken finger in Birmingham.
West Indies also altered their lineup, bringing in experienced batsman Shimron Hetmyer in place of Amir Jangoo, while 18-year-old Jewel Andrew was named to open the innings.
After being bowled out for just 162 in response to England’s commanding 400-8 in the first match, West Indies captain Shai Hope acknowledged the need for improvement. “We’ve had a lot of conversations about how we can get better and we need to,” Hope said. “It’s a three-match series and we need to turn this one around.”
