BISP & WFP Boost Collaboration for Nutrition and Protection
Key focus on maternal and child health through the Benazir Nashonuma Programme
ISLAMABAD: The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and the World Food Programme (WFP) have agreed to enhance their collaboration to improve social protection efforts and address health and nutrition challenges in Pakistan. This agreement was made during a meeting between BISP Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid, BISP Secretary Amer Ali Ahmad, and WFP’s Deputy Country Director Rathi Pala Krishnan.
Both parties discussed strengthening operations at the provincial level to better serve the beneficiaries of various welfare programs. The focus was placed on improving maternal and child health initiatives under BISP’s Benazir Nashonuma Programme, raising awareness campaigns, and furthering BISP’s outreach in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under WFP’s frameworks.
Senator Rubina Khalid emphasized the importance of the partnership between BISP and WFP in promoting the Nashonuma Programme, a vital initiative aimed at addressing the nutritional needs of mothers and children. She remarked, “The Benazir Nashonuma Programme is critical in ensuring that the health and nutrition needs of mothers and children are met. Raising awareness among women is key to maximizing the programme’s benefits.”
She further stated, “Our mission is to expand BISP nationwide, ensuring that every child in Pakistan has a healthy start in life, which will lay the foundation for a brighter and more prosperous future.”
