ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Senator Rubina Khalid, held a meeting with World Food Programme (WFP) Country Director Coco Ushiyama at BISP Headquarters, focusing on improving maternal and child health and nutrition among beneficiaries.

During the meeting, discussions centred on strengthening interventions under the Benazir Nashonuma Programme, with particular emphasis on enhancing maternal health, child nutrition, and immunization coverage. Senator Rubina Khalid highlighted the importance of awareness campaigns and termed the requirement of immunization certificates for BISP registration a key step toward ensuring better health outcomes for children.

She also stressed the need to educate mothers about the nutritional value of locally available household food and its effective use to support children’s physical and cognitive development.

WFP Country Director Coco Ushiyama reaffirmed her organisation’s commitment to close collaboration with BISP, expressing readiness to support effective planning and implementation of future initiatives in maternal and child health.

Both sides also reviewed proposals to expand the outreach of the Benazir Nashonuma Programme, improve access for deserving women, and enhance service delivery through modern digital systems. The importance of adopting successful international models and adapting them to Pakistan’s context was also highlighted.
