Ben Shelton Defeats Tiafoe to Reach First Grand Slam Final
ISLAMABAD: (Sports Desk) – American tennis star Ben Shelton powered past compatriot Frances Tiafoe in four sets to reach the first Grand Slam final of his career at the US Open.
The eighth-seeded Shelton produced a dominant serving display, firing 20 aces in a thrilling 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 7-5 victory at Arthur Ashe Stadium. He will face Germany’s top-seeded Alexander Zverev in Sunday’s championship match.
Shelton, 23, had already stunned defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals and now has a chance to become the first American man since Andy Roddick in 2003 to win a Grand Slam singles title.
Tiafoe made the stronger start and claimed the opening set, but Shelton quickly turned the match around. After leveling the contest, he continued to apply pressure on Tiafoe’s serve and secured crucial breaks in the third and fourth sets.
The victory marked a major milestone for Shelton, who became the first of the two Americans to reach a Grand Slam final. Speaking after the match, he dedicated the win to his late grandmother and vowed to give everything in Sunday’s final.
