Babusar Top Road Closed as Heavy Snowfall Hits Mansehra Region

Traffic stays suspended at Gati Das, while Naran and Kaghan roads remain open for all vehicles

Babusar – (Staff Reporter/Web Desk) – The Babusar Top road closed on Tuesday after heavy rain and snowfall hit Mansehra. Traffic has been suspended on the route because of the bad weather.

A cold wave has gripped the district. The city saw rain on and off during the day, while the higher areas got fresh snow.

The road was shut at Gati Das. This point lies on the way up to Babusar Top, and vehicles are not being allowed to move ahead.

Shahrah-e-Mansehra was also closed for a short time. The closure applied to all kinds of traffic coming from Zero Point Gilgit.

Heavy snow makes mountain roads slippery and risky. Drivers can lose control easily, and visibility drops fast. This is why officials stop traffic early.

There is some good news for travelers. The district administration says all roads leading to Kaghan and Naran Valley are open for every kind of vehicle.

So people who plan to visit these two popular valleys can still go. The only major stop is on the Babusar Top route.

Officials have also shared a clear plan. Once the snowfall stops, teams will clear the road and open it again. Traffic will then start moving as normal.

At this time, no exact reopening time has been given. Much depends on how long the snow continues.

The weather may stay unsettled for some time. The Pakistan Meteorological Department had issued a forecast a day earlier, on October 12, 2026.

It said rain, wind and thunderstorms were likely on Tuesday. The areas named were Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, and upper and central Punjab.

The Met Office also warned of isolated hailstorms during this period.

For the upper parts of the country, it expected partly cloudy weather. Other areas were likely to stay dry.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, most areas may see partly cloudy skies. Rain, wind and thunderstorms may occur at isolated places.

The districts named include Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad and Haripur. Buner, Malakand, Bajaur and Mohmand are also on the list.

Others include Kohat, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi and Khyber. Orakzai, Kurram, Parachinar, Hangu, Lakki Marwat, Karak, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and Waziristan are also named.

Isolated hailstorms are likely in some of these places as well.

Travelers should take some simple steps. Check the road status before you leave home, and avoid driving in the dark on mountain routes.

Carry warm clothes, some food and water. Keep your fuel tank full, and do not try to cross a closed road.

If you must travel, follow the advice of local police and the district administration. Their updates are the most reliable source in such weather.

For now, the Babusar Top road remains closed. We will update this report when the road reopens.
