Elon Musk Spends $366 Million on 2026 US Midterm Elections

Republicans Receive Millions From Elon Musk's Political Network

Washington: (News Desk)  – Elon Musk has spent approximately $366 million during the 2026 US midterm election cycle, with $276 million donated since July to support Republican efforts to maintain control of Congress. The spending comes as Democrats have strengthened their prospects of regaining majorities in the US House of Representatives and Senate.

Campaign finance records indicate that Musk, the world’s richest person, is likely to be the biggest individual political donor in this year’s midterm races. His latest contributions, previously reported by The New York Times, were also confirmed by a spokesperson for his super PAC, America PAC.

Musk has significant interests at stake as Democrats in the House push for investigations into government contracts held by SpaceX, the aerospace company he leads, as well as his involvement in running the Department of Government Efficiency under President Donald Trump.

Major Republican Donations Since July

Of the $276 million Musk has contributed to Republican-aligned groups and his own super PAC since July, $158 million went to the Senate Leadership Fund, which supports Republican Senate candidates and is aligned with Senate Majority Leader John Thune.

Another $20 million was directed to the Congressional Leadership Fund, a super PAC backing House Republicans and associated with House Speaker Mike Johnson.

Musk’s America PAC received $76 million, while the Lone Star Liberty PAC and the Republican Governors Association each received $10 million. The Republican Attorneys General Association was given an additional $2 million.

America PAC is supporting Republican candidates across seven battleground states and nearly three dozen congressional races, making it a significant part of the party’s campaign efforts ahead of the November elections.

Political Spending Faces Greater Scrutiny

Much of the latest funding is expected to become publicly visible as super PACs prepare to disclose their third-quarter financial activity. However, The New York Times has reported that Musk has also channelled money through organisations that are not required to identify their donors publicly.

According to an America PAC spokesperson, around $90 million of Musk’s election-cycle spending went towards activities related to the previous election or other political causes. These included support for an unsuccessful Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate and a controversial initiative offering $1 million to registered voters who signed a petition supporting free speech and gun rights.

Musk spent approximately $290 million during the previous election cycle, when Donald Trump defeated former Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential race. His latest spending underscores his continued financial involvement in US politics as Republicans and Democrats compete for control of Congress.
