Army deployment in Gilgit-Baltistan extended until June 2026

GILGIT: (Web Desk)-  The federal government has decided to extend the deployment of security forces in Gilgit-Baltistan until June 14, 2026, in view of upcoming general elections and prevailing security requirements.

According to sources, the decision was approved by the federal cabinet through a circulation summary sent by the Ministry of Interior. The extension covers the continued presence of the Pakistan Army, Rangers, Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts, and Frontier Corps personnel in the region.

Sources further revealed that the Gilgit-Baltistan government had formally requested the extension to maintain internal security during the sensitive pre-election period. The deployment of the Army has now been officially prolonged under Article 245 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

Officials said the security forces will continue to perform duties related to maintaining law and order, safeguarding key infrastructure, and ensuring the protection of strategic projects, including those linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, as well as the vital Karakoram Highway.

The move is aimed at ensuring a secure environment ahead of the electoral process and protecting critical national assets in the region.
