ISLAMABAD: (Staff Reporter) – Pakistan has reported its eighth polio case of 2026 after the virus was detected in a 13-month-old girl in Bara tehsil of Khyber district.
According to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recorded six polio cases this year, while Sindh has reported two.
Environmental samples collected from Peshawar and Khyber have also tested positive for the poliovirus, raising concerns about its continued circulation in the country.
Meanwhile, the government is launching a nationwide anti-polio vaccination campaign from November 2 to 8 across 97 districts.
During the week-long campaign, vaccination teams will visit households to administer polio drops to approximately 24 million children to protect them against the crippling disease.
The Pakistan Polio Programme has launched a detailed investigation into the latest case and is taking measures to prevent further transmission of the virus.
Health authorities have urged parents to ensure that their children receive polio drops during every vaccination campaign, stressing that repeated doses are essential for protection against the disease.
