AJK Prime Minister Announces Zero-Tolerance Campaign Against Food Adulteration

Muzaffarabad: Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq has announced a comprehensive campaign to combat food adulteration in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), in line with the government’s zero-tolerance policy. The campaign will kick off from the first of Ramadan, ensuring adulteration-free food in local markets.

Speaking to the media after inaugurating mobile food testing vans for the Food Department, the Prime Minister emphasized that these state-of-the-art mobile laboratories would enable quick detection of food adulteration and improve the quality of food available to the public. He also highlighted that this initiative aligns with the vision of the Supreme Court, and the current government is privileged to implement it.

The Prime Minister called on the business community to play a role in exposing those involved in food adulteration and assured that the coalition government would take strict action against them. He further revealed that the Food Department’s Criminal Code would be revised to include harsher punishments, with a maximum sentence of seven years for those found guilty of food adulteration.

In addition, the Prime Minister announced the launch of a major 36-crore project for the development of Muzaffarabad city.

Responding to a recent incident involving the harassment of a foreign national, the Prime Minister stated that government officials would be held accountable for neglect or unethical behavior. He also referred to the recent arrest of a serving SHO (Station House Officer) on a woman’s complaint as a significant step towards institutional reforms.

The Prime Minister further noted that a large number of wood smuggling cases had been registered recently, adding that an ordinary forest employee now has the authority to stop a serving DSP for illegal timber trade, as the government is backing them in their efforts to curb corruption.
