AJK Budget Focuses on Public Relief, Development: Qasim Majeed

Qasim Majeed said the government had also regularised ad hoc employees within a short period

MUZAFFARABAD: (Web Desk) – Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Finance Minister Chaudhry Qasim Majeed has described the 2026-27 budget as people-friendly, relief-oriented, and centered on development and public welfare.

Speaking at a post-budget press conference in Muzaffarabad, the finance minister said the government has allocated billions of rupees for the education, health, and infrastructure sectors. He announced an education package, grants for universities, and the upgradation of health centres across the region.

Qasim Majeed said the government had approved the regularisation of 878 Forest Department employees. He added that the budget also includes a police martyrs’ package, the establishment of a Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), and the creation of 473 new posts.

The minister further announced the establishment of a Riot Management Police force with 1,340 new positions. He said Rs470 crore had been allocated for the purchase of weapons, anti-riot equipment, and tear gas to strengthen law and order.

He also revealed that all formal requirements for converting AJK Bank into a scheduled bank had been completed, with its first online branch expected to become operational in August.

Among other relief measures, the government has increased the living allowance for 1989-90 refugees by Rs2,500 and proposed an additional Rs3 crore for the Information Department’s advertising budget.

Qasim Majeed said the government had also regularised ad hoc employees within a short period, adding that the budget reflects the administration’s commitment to public welfare, institutional strengthening, and sustainable development.
