Ahsan Bhoon Sends Rs5 Billion Notice to Safdar

LAHORE: (Staff Reporter) – Senior Supreme Court advocate and Pakistan’s prominent lawyer leader Ahsan Bhoon has served a Rs5 billion damages notice on Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar over remarks questioning the authenticity of his law degree.

According to the legal notice, Safdar has been given seven days to retract the allegations and offer an unconditional apology. Failure to comply, it states, could lead to the initiation of civil and criminal proceedings.

The notice maintains that Bhoon obtained his LLB degree from Punjab University in 1989 and says his academic qualification is genuine and has been duly verified.

It further states that the Controller of Examinations at Punjab University re-verified Bhoon’s degree on January 21, 2026.

Bhoon’s legal team alleges that Safdar made the disputed remarks while speaking to journalists outside the Supreme Court on September 23. The notice claims that no authentic documentary or legal evidence was presented to substantiate the allegations.

The notice further argues that the statements were false and had adversely affected Bhoon’s reputation and professional standing.

Safdar had earlier called for verification of the law degrees of several senior lawyers, including Bhoon, amid controversy surrounding the upcoming Supreme Court Bar Association elections.

Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar had also commented on the matter, saying Bhoon’s credentials had previously been verified and that, to his knowledge, there was nothing questionable regarding his degree.

The allegations remain disputed and have not been conclusively adjudicated by a court. The Rs5 billion amount cited in the notice is a damages claim and does not represent a court-awarded sum.
