Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Caretaker Chief Minister Muhammad Azam Khan passed away due to illness at a private hospital in Peshawar on Saturday. He was 89,

Azam Khan had been ill  and had a severe stomach infection and was admitted to Rehmand Medical Institue (RMI) in Peshawar Friday night. He was under treatment when he breathed his last due to a heart attack.

According to the spokesperson of the Rehman Medical Institute, Azam Khan was shifted to the private hospital on Friday night when his health deteriorated.

Hospital spokesman Shabbir Shah said Azam Khan was suffering from multiple diseases and was in a critical condition. He was kept in the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU). Due to his illness, he had limited his movement for the past few days.

According to the family sources, the chief minister died at 10:25am on Saturday.

, Dr Gulzar of Rehman Medical Institute Peshawar said that caretaker CM Azam Khan had been suffering from stomach disease for the past three to four days. He said that all tests were run on Azam Khan, even his CT Scan was also conducted.

“CM Azam Khan was diagnosed with a hernia. His condition improved last evening, but it worsened late at night,” the doctor revealed.

Dr Gulzar said that the hospital staff made utmost efforts to save Azam Khan but they failed.

Azam Khan’s Namaz-i-Janaza will be offered at his hometown of Prang in Charsadda district at 3:30 pm today.

Former bureaucrat Mohammad Azam Khan had taken oath as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa caretaker chief minister on January 21, 2023, after KP Governor Haji Ghulam Ali formally appointed Khan as the caretaker chief minister of the province in the interim set-up.

A Barrister-at-Law from Lincoln’s Inn, London, Azam Khan had earlier served as minister for interior, capital administration and development in the caretaker cabinet of prime minister Nasir-ul-Mulk in 2018.

He also remained the provincial minister for finance, planning and development in the KP caretaker cabinet of CM Shamsul Mulk from October 2007 to April 2008 and served on key positions in the federal and provincial governments.

Before these stints, he had served as chief secretary from September 1990 till July 1993. He also remained the Pakistan Tobacco Board chairman.

He was the real brother of former Inspector General Police, ex-caretaker provincial minister Abbas Khan, cousin of Chairman Qaumi Watan Party Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao,

President Dr Arif Alvi has expressed his deep sorrow and regret on the death of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Caretaker Chief Minister Azam Khan.

In a post uploaded on X platform, the President expressed his condolences to the family members of the Caretaker Chief Minister.

Arif Alvi said in his meetings with the late Azam Khan, he found him to be a noble person.

Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, who is on a visit of Saudi Arabia, said the sad news of the death of the Caretaker Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Azam Khan was received. He was certainly an honest and good person. May Allah raise the ranks of the deceased and give patience to the bereaved.”

Former president and PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari expressed grief over the death of Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Azam Khan.

Zardari expressed condolences to the family of late Azam Khan and prayed for his forgiveness and high status.

Former prime Minister and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif has expressed his grief and condolence over the sad demise of Mohammad Azam Khan expressed his grief and condolence over the death.

In a post uploaded on PML-N’s X account, Shehbaz said Azam Khan served with integrity and professionalism as a civil servant. “He belonged to a family whose many members served the country and nation with great sincerity. Having had the opportunity to work with him during the 16-month coalition government, I was impressed by his passion for service,” he added.

The PML-N president said during the campaign to help the flood victims, Azam Khan worked with great zeal and sincerity. “He was humble but very intelligent and open-minded person. We pay homage to his services for the country and nation. May Allah forgive the deceased, give patience to the family and all the relatives,” he concluded.

Pakistan People’s Party Chairman and former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed condolences over the death of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa CM Azam Khan, saying late Azam Khan performed the most important administrative duties with dedication.

Bilawal said late Azam Khan’s actions towards public service will always be remembered.

Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi has also condoled the death of his KP counterpart Azam Khan. He offered his condolences to the family members of Azam Khan, saying his services for the country and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will always be remembered. “May Allah Almighty grant patience to Azam Khan’s family,” he added

Sindh Interim Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqir has also expressed his condolences on the death of Azam Khan. He prayed “May Allah Almighty raise ranks of the deceased and patience to his family members,” he added.
