Islamabad High Court (IHC) will take up the plea today seeking suspension of the three-year sentence awarded to PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan in Toshakhana criminal case,

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court had hinted at “procedural flaws” in conviction of Imran Khan by the trial court while hearing the Toshakhana reference.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umar Ata Bandial remarked “Prima facies the verdict of the additional sessions judge contains loopholes but the apex court will not intervene right now, rather it will wait for the high court’s decision.”

A two-judge IHC bench led by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq will hear today the plea against the conviction of Imran Khan. The IHC deferred the hearing on August 22 last on the request of the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) lawyer, who sought more time for arguments preparation.

During today’s hearing in IHC, the ECP’s lawyer will submit his arguments against suspending the conviction of the former prime minister

The Wednesday’s ruling of the Supreme Court came during the hearing of the PTI chief’s challenge to the IHC’s August 3 order of referring the case back to trial court judge Humayun Dilawar, who handed Imran Khan three-year jail term
