Bilawal raises fear of martial law if SC’s larger bench isn’t formed
Three judges will push the country into quagmire of dictatorship: Bilawal
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto has raised fear of martial law if the Supreme Court’s larger bench is not constituted, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Monday.
“Failure to form a larger bench may lead to a constitutional crisis. It is better to constitute a larger bench of the Supreme Court,” Bilawal said.
He added: “It is a trial of the Supreme Court. It will decide whether the court is an institution for the protection of the Constitution or it wants to become a Tiger Force.”
He continued: “Historical criticism of the Supreme Court is being made. If a larger bench is not formed, history will remember Justice Umar Atta Bandial. Pakistan’s politics has been held hostage.”
Bilawal Bhutto bemoaned the PTI government, saying terrorism resurged due to the incompetent former prime minister.
Pakistan won the war against terror, he said, adding that terrorism in the country is because of Imran Khan’s decisions
However, he said the coalition government will win the war on terrorism. He said the remnants of dictators are in Tehreek-e-Insaf.
He said that the three judges will once again push the country into the quagmire of dictatorship adding there is fear of emergency or martial law.
Talking to the media in Larkana, Bilawal Bhutto said that the terrorists arrested were released due to the decisions of the previous government. Pakistan is facing terrorism again today. The government will still defeat the terrorists, he asserted. The 1973 constitution was laid by Bhutto, and it was restored during the Asif Zardari era, Bilawal held.
The PPP Chairman further said that the children of dictators are part of Tehreek-e-Insaaf. He said that the three judges should think about what is going on. Supreme Court judges will prove by their role whether they are judiciary or want to become tiger force. He said the rest of the judges are also disagreeing with the 3 judges. The 9-member bench has now become a 3-member bench, he told.
The foreign minister said that it was not appropriate that only 3 judges should hear this case. He also questioned Justice Ijazul Ahsan being part of this bench. He said that it was appropriate that a larger bench should be constituted.
He further said that PPP is not worried about the popularity of Imran Khan. PPP will contest the elections and nobody is worried about 90 days time. “We defeated Khan in the local bodies elections too”, he expressed his pride.
