Islamabad;(Staff Reporter)_Zakat Foundation of America provided flood relief and made efforts for rehabilitation of
affected communities both Muslims and Hindus in Pakistan:
Distribution Status – On going: Provision of 240 tons (240,000 KG) rice in flood affected areas
of Sindh, Baluchistan and South Punjab
Islamabad, Ms. Veeru Kohali from Hindu Community Sindh and an activist against the Bonded Slavery was
grateful to Dr. Farrukh Raza, advisor planning, Zakat Foundation of America (ZFA) and appreciated Zakat
Foundation’s contribution and relief activities (provision of food, water and tents) in her community in
Tehsil Judho, District Mirpurkhas with the collaboration of READ Foundation Pakistan.
While speaking to the press conference Dr. Farrukh Raza said that Zakat Foundation of America is working
in flood affected areas without any discrimination of religion, color, gender and area. We are providing
emergency relief, and started rehabilitation work for both Muslims and Hindu communities in Sindh. Zakat
Foundation has distributed 140 tons (140,000 KG) Rice and other food items worth of US$ 100,000 in last
month, in collaboration with Al-Khidmat Foundation Pakistan, READ Foundation and Khubaib Foundation.
Furthermore, Zakat Foundation has announced the next phase and that pertains to rehabilitation of the
displaced flood affected people in Pakistan. ZFA approved to build the entire village of Ms. Veeru Kholi in
Judho, Mirpurkhas, moreover, ZFA will adopt most affected and damaged villages in other six districts in
Sindh and Baluchistan.
Zakat Foundation of America is a US-based, Muslim-run charity organization that channels the spirit of
Zakat and donations into vision of social development in Pakistan and in 50 other countries around the
world. Dr. Raza further said “ZFA Board of Directors asked me to visit personally (as I belong to Sindh) in
flood affected areas in Pakistan and decide immediately about ZFA relief and rehabilitation response. I am
thankful to Allah (SWT) who gave me strength and I visited by road most of flood affected area from
Jafarabad district Baluchistan to the last districts of Sindh Mirpurkhas and Badin. I personally met with the
people and I appreciate Al-Khadmat and READ Foundation teams who helped us to manage distribution of
food and other relief items.”
I hope and trust that our partner organizations like READ Foundation and Al-Khidmat Foundation will help
ZFA to rebuild the damaged villages and provide immediate shelters to the affected people of flood areas
as winter is approaching soon.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Fazal ur Rehman from READ Foundation thanked Dr. Raza and ZFA for
working with READ Foundation and we ensure Zakat Foundation that READ Foundation will be custodian
of all relief and development activities and donations of ZFA and will manage all activities timely In shaa
Allah. Mr. Fazal said that native and overseas Pakistanis had banded together to assist READ Foundation
flood relief work across Pakistan. Zakat Foundation America is working side by side with READ Foundation
to help flood affected brothers and sisters in Pakistan, he added.
Dr. Raza assured the flood affected population in Pakistan that ZFA and all brothers and sisters living in USA
are standing with them and feeling the pain of our people. Overseas people always try to reach out in any
type of disaster in Pakistan. I thank the Government of Pakistan and our partner organizations who
cooperated with ZFA on each and every step for distribution of relief items in the flood affected areas.
