Russia Claims 902 Ukrainian Drones Shot Down Overnight

Drone Attacks Disrupt Moscow Airport Operations for Eight Hours

MOSCOW: (News Desk) – Russia’s military said on Wednesday that its air defence systems had intercepted and destroyed 902 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 180 that were reportedly approaching the capital, Moscow.

According to a statement from the Russian Defence Ministry, the drones were brought down across approximately 20 Russian regions and the annexed Crimean peninsula.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said 180 drones had been destroyed as they approached the capital, describing the incident as one of the largest drone attacks targeting Moscow in recent weeks.

The reported attacks disrupted air traffic at several Moscow airports. Operations at Vnukovo Airport were suspended for more than eight hours, according to airport authorities.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces had launched what it described as a “massive strike with high-precision weapons” against energy and communications infrastructure in Kyiv, the surrounding region and Ukraine’s Kharkiv region.

The ministry claimed that all the targeted facilities served military purposes. The claims regarding the number of drones intercepted and the impact of the strikes could not be independently verified from the information provided.

The latest developments underscore the continuing escalation of aerial attacks between Russia and Ukraine as the war continues to affect military infrastructure and civilian aviation.
