Pakistan vs UK – (Special Correspondent/Web Desk) – Pakistan UK intelligence sharing took center stage this week as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met British National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell in London. The two sides agreed to deepen cooperation on counter-terrorism and security matters.
The meeting formed part of Dar’s five-day official visit to the United Kingdom, during which he held a series of talks with senior British leaders.
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said both sides discussed ways to build stronger ties in counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing and other security-related areas.
During his talk with Powell, Dar spoke about Pakistan’s role in supporting peace across the region. He pointed to Islamabad’s ongoing efforts to encourage dialogue, reduce tensions and reach peaceful solutions to regional disputes.
The two leaders also shared their views on major security issues affecting South Asia, the Middle East and Afghanistan. Both sides agreed these topics needed continued attention from their respective governments.
Earlier the same day, Dar held detailed talks with British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband. The meeting covered the full range of ties between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
Both sides agreed to set up a new structured system for formal talks between their foreign ministries. This mechanism will allow the two countries to cover all areas of cooperation and track progress on a regular basis.
The move is seen as a step toward closer coordination between Islamabad and London on both political and security fronts. Officials from both countries called it a positive development for future ties.
During his visit, Dar has met several top UK officials, including representatives from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. He also engaged with members of the British Pakistani community, who form one of the largest overseas Pakistani populations in Europe.
Trade, investment and regional stability have also been key parts of discussions during Dar’s trip. Officials on both sides expressed interest in expanding cooperation beyond security matters and into economic areas.
Analysts say the growing focus on Pakistan UK intelligence sharing reflects wider efforts by both countries to address common security challenges, particularly those linked to extremism and cross-border threats.
