Flour Prices Surge Further as Household Food Costs Continue Rising

ISLAMABAD: (Finance Reporter) – Flour prices have risen again in several parts of Pakistan, with the cost of a 20-kilogram bag increasing by as much as Rs100 in some cities over the past week, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Islamabad recorded the highest average price, with a 20kg flour bag selling for around Rs3,133.33, while prices in Rawalpindi reached approximately Rs3,093.33.

Khuzdar witnessed the biggest weekly increase, with the price climbing by Rs100. Flour prices also rose by Rs60 in Bahawalpur, Rs40 in Hyderabad and Rs20 each in Larkana and Quetta.

According to the latest PBS figures, consumers in Peshawar are paying around Rs3,100 for a 20kg bag, while the price stands at approximately Rs3,000 in Karachi and Rs2,900 in Bannu.

In Quetta, the same quantity is available for around Rs2,700, while Lahore has a comparatively lower average price of about Rs2,300.

A 20kg bag is selling for approximately Rs2,800 in Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sargodha, Multan and Bahawalpur. Prices are around Rs2,580 in Sukkur and Rs2,620 in Larkana.

The latest increase is adding to the financial pressure on households across the country, particularly low- and middle-income families already dealing with rising prices of essential food items.
