Trump Administration Questions NATO Allies Over Defence Policies

WASHINGTON: (News Desk0 – The Trump administration has sent a questionnaire to NATO allies as Washington assesses their alignment with US defence and security priorities, according to a Bloomberg report.

The questionnaire reportedly asks NATO members whether they place any restrictions on the use of their military bases by US forces, whether they spend money on American defence contractors, and how they view “Made in Europe” policies.

The move has raised concerns among some US allies, who see the questionnaire as an effort to encourage greater ideological and policy alignment in return for continued American security commitments.

The initiative comes as the United States conducts a six-month review of its military presence in Europe. The review is expected to be completed in December and could shape Washington’s future troop and defence posture on the continent.

The questionnaire also examines NATO members’ defence spending and reportedly requests documentation for defence equipment purchased from US companies.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, however, has described the US review as a positive development. He said the process was bringing NATO members closer together and suggested that such reviews could be conducted more regularly.
