Trump Declassified China Intelligence On 2020 Election
Trump Declassified China Intelligence, But Critics Call The Evidence Weak
TRUMP vs CHINA – (Special Correspondent/Web Desk) -President Donald Trump has stirred fresh controversy after making new Trump China election interference claims during a prime-time address on Thursday. He said he was releasing classified files to prove China tried to meddle in US elections. But American intelligence agencies have already said there is no proof Beijing changed any votes in 2020, the election Trump lost.
During his 25-minute speech, Trump pushed hard on the idea that election security should be a top issue before the November midterms. Republicans are worried about losing seats in Congress, and Trump wants voters focused on this topic instead of rising living costs.
Trump also asked Republican lawmakers to support tougher voter ID and citizenship rules. He has made this demand many times before, even though studies show voter fraud almost never happens in the US.
The president claimed China secretly gained access to 220 million American voter records. These included names, home addresses, and other private details used for voter registration. Trump said intelligence officials hid the true scale of China’s actions from the public.
However, his claims go against a 2021 government report. That report found no sign any foreign country changed vote counts, ballots, or results in the 2020 election. The report was created under John Ratcliffe, who was Trump’s intelligence chief back then and now leads the CIA.
Some White House staff privately worried that sharing this information could confuse the public rather than clarify anything, according to people familiar with the matter.
China’s government denied the accusations. A spokesperson for the Chinese embassy said China has never tried to interfere in American elections and never will.
Interestingly, some of the documents Trump released did not support his claims. One file was actually about Venezuela’s election, not America’s. Another document stated that vote systems would be very hard to manipulate on a large scale.
Democratic Senator Mark Warner pushed back strongly, saying intelligence agencies agreed China never changed a single vote in 2020.
Ahead of the speech, House Democrats warned intelligence leaders not to let Trump misuse classified information for political gain.
Notably, several major TV networks chose not to air the speech live, a rare move for a presidential address.
Since returning to office last year, Trump has tried to increase federal control over elections, even though US states normally manage their own voting systems.
He is also pushing the SAVE America Act, a bill requiring photo ID and citizenship proof to vote. Critics say this could block many legal voters from casting ballots.
With tough political battles ahead, especially the Iran war and high energy costs, Republicans face real pressure heading into the 2026 elections.
