WASHINGTON (Web Desk) – US President Donald Trump on Friday strongly condemned Iran over a drone attack on a cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as a “foolish” breach of the Middle East ceasefire agreement.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed that one of the drones struck the upper deck of a “large and very expensive cargo-carrying ship,” while three other drones were intercepted.
“Obviously, this is a foolish violation of our Ceasefire Agreement,” Trump wrote, referring to the attack that reportedly took place a day earlier.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said a cargo ship sailing through the Strait of Hormuz was hit on its starboard side by an unidentified projectile, causing damage to the vessel’s bridge. No casualties were reported. The incident occurred approximately 7.5 nautical miles (14 kilometres) off the coast of Oman.
Following the attack, International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez announced the suspension of efforts to evacuate around 600 ships and nearly 11,000 sailors stranded in the Gulf due to the ongoing conflict.

When asked how the United States would respond, Trump declined to reveal his plans, telling reporters at the Oval Office, “You’ll find out.”
Although a ceasefire came into effect on April 8, tensions have persisted in the Gulf region, with sporadic attacks on commercial shipping and continued military exchanges involving Iran and US forces.
