Iran Team Arrives Los Angeles World Cup as US-Iran Peace Deal Shocks the World
Iran Football Team – (Web Desk) – Iran’s national football team has arrived in Los Angeles for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking a historic moment as the Iran team arrives Los Angeles World Cup stage on the very same day a peace deal between the United States and Iran was officially announced.
The team flew in from Tijuana, Mexico, where they had been based due to the ongoing tensions between the two countries. Their arrival at Los Angeles International Airport drew massive attention worldwide.
Before leaving Mexico, the Iranian squad received an emotional farewell. Hundreds of fans lined the streets outside their hotel, chanting “Team Melli” — which means “national team” in Persian.
Fans held signs reading “Iran, you will never walk alone. Mexico stands with you.” The crowd even broke into Spanish chants, calling Iran their brothers. It was a deeply touching moment that went viral on social media.
Head coach Amir Ghalenoei addressed the media at Los Angeles Stadium through a translator. He expressed pride in representing the Iranian nation and hoped football would bring cultures closer together.
He also confirmed that visa denials for some federation members and constant travel between Mexico and the US had affected the team’s preparation.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on social media that the US and Iran had reached a peace deal. The formal signing ceremony is scheduled for Friday in Switzerland.
This makes the 2026 FIFA World Cup the first in history where a host nation has welcomed a country it was at war with — a truly unprecedented moment in World Cup history.
Iran face New Zealand on Monday in their Group G opener at Los Angeles Stadium. Their remaining group matches are against Belgium and Egypt. Iran have never previously faced New Zealand at a World Cup.
