Rs22 Billion Allocated for Health Sector Development Projects Nationwide

Government Prioritizes Cancer, Hepatitis and Diabetes Programmes

ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) -The federal government has proposed a development allocation of Rs22 billion for the National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Division under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the fiscal year 2026-27.

According to official budget documents, the proposed allocation covers 33 development projects aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure, expanding medical education, enhancing research capacity, and improving access to quality health services nationwide.

Of the total proposed amount, Rs19.36 billion has been earmarked for 22 ongoing projects, while Rs2.64 billion has been allocated for 11 new development initiatives.

Among the priority projects included in the plan are the establishment of a cancer hospital in Islamabad, the Jinnah Medical Complex and Research Center, the National Programme for the Eradication of Hepatitis C, and several initiatives focused on diabetes prevention and treatment.

The government has also proposed allocating Rs2 billion for the Prime Minister’s National Health Programme to further improve healthcare services and expand medical facilities for citizens.

Several new projects have been included in the development portfolio, including the Federal Medical College Islamabad, the National Research and Fertility Care Center Karachi, and the National University of Nursing Karachi.

These initiatives are intended to strengthen medical training, promote advanced healthcare research, and improve access to specialized treatment services across the country.

Official sources said the proposed development budget prioritizes the timely completion of ongoing projects while also focusing on the provision of modern healthcare facilities and the enhancement of research and teaching standards.

Healthcare experts believe that successful implementation of these projects could significantly improve Pakistan’s healthcare system by increasing treatment capacity, supporting disease prevention efforts, and expanding opportunities for medical education and scientific research.
