FBR Imposes Heavy Fine On Gerry’s Dnata

Fake Gate Pass Network Busted At Airport Cargo

Islamabad:(Web Desk)  The Federal Board of Revenue has imposed penalties amounting to Rs2.7 billion on M/s Gerry’s Dnata (Pvt) Ltd following adjudication orders that found the company involved in the illegal removal of high-value imported electronic goods by bypassing official customs clearance procedures.

According to findings from the Collectorate of Customs (Airports), Karachi, the scam involved systematic manipulation of records, including the concealment of airway bills, deletion of index numbers, and generation of fake gate passes through the company’s internal computerized system. These actions allegedly made consignments invisible within the customs clearance framework, allowing goods to be removed without submission of Goods Declarations or payment of duties and taxes.

Investigators revealed that the fraud initially came to light when customs officials intercepted shipments at the Gerry’s cargo shed containing luxury electronics such as laptops, iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, PlayStations, tablets, and memory cards, all being cleared using forged documentation.

Further inquiry found that at least five additional consignments had already been illegally processed using the same method. The shipments reportedly originated from UAE-based suppliers and were deliberately kept out of the WeBOC to evade regulatory scrutiny.

Authorities have arrested eight individuals, including five employees of Gerry’s Dnata. During questioning, confessional statements were recorded, including admissions from staff members regarding the issuance of fake gate passes on supervisory instructions. A cargo agent also reportedly confessed to the existence of an organized network involved in long-term manipulation of import records and systematic theft of goods.

In addition to the Rs2.7 billion penalty, adjudicating authorities ordered the recovery of Rs221 million in evaded customs duties and taxes.
