PTI postpones April 9 rally following Imran Khan’s directive
PTI delays April 9 Rawalpindi rally as Pakistan hosts US-Iran peace talks
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf – (Web Desk) – The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced on Wednesday that it is postponing its scheduled April 9 rally at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi. The decision comes amid ongoing preparations in Islamabad for critical US-Iran peace talks.
PTI chief Barrister Gohar Khan said the postponement was made following instructions from the party’s jailed founder and former Prime Minister, Imran Khan. The message was delivered through Barrister Salman Safdar, who met Imran Khan at Adiala Jail earlier in the day.
He added that the decision was taken after consultation with the PTI political committee, which convened to review party strategies and coordination. Barrister Gohar emphasized that all party actions are guided by the nation’s best interests, highlighting PTI’s focus on putting Pakistan first.
Welcoming the recent US-Iran ceasefire announcement, he expressed hope for lasting peace. Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas also supported the decision, following successful talks between the federal government and opposition leaders at Parliament House in Islamabad.
A government delegation — comprising Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, and MNAs Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Naveed Qamar — met the opposition party leaders in Parliament House to request the postponement of the PTI rally.

The move followed Tarar’s address on the National Assembly floor, where he urged the opposition to reconsider its protest call. He emphasised the need for national unity as Pakistan prepares to host delegations from the US and Iran for a ceasefire agreement in Islamabad.
After the meeting, the Senate opposition leader said the PTI’s political committee had decided to defer the public gathering in response to the government’s request.
