One person killed, 47 injured in violent Peru football derby

One Dead, Dozens Hurt at Lima Stadium Before High-Stakes Football Derby

Peru – (Web Desk) – A tragic evening unfolded at Alejandro Villanueva Stadium in Lima, Peru, on Friday night when at least one person lost their life and 47 others were hurt during a pre-match gathering ahead of a highly anticipated football derby.

Health Minister Juan Carlos Velasco confirmed the heartbreaking news to reporters, saying that one person had sadly passed away and dozens more had been taken care of for their injuries. However, he did not go into detail about what exactly triggered the chaos.

Early reports suggested that a section of the stadium wall had given way, sending fans into a panic. But the Alianza Lima football club quickly stepped in to clear the air, stating through their official social media that the tragedy was not the result of any walls collapsing or structural problems with the stadium.

The true cause of the incident is yet to be officially confirmed, leaving many fans and families anxiously waiting for answers.

Velasco said 39 of the victims were sent to hospitals throughout the Lima region, including three in critical condition.

Fire Chief Marcos Pajuelo told reporters that “the structure of the southern stands appeared to be in good condition. There are no collapsed walls or sections fallen into the pit.”
