A devastating suicide bombing claimed five innocent lives and left 14 others critically wounded in Bannu on Tuesday, when an attacker drove an explosives-packed vehicle into the outer wall of Domel Police Station, reducing much of the building to rubble.

Security forces swiftly moved in to seal off the area, launching an urgent rescue and search operation to help survivors and assess the damage.

District Emergency Officer Bakht Khan Wazir expressed that the attackers had hoped to spread fear among the peace-loving people of Bannu — but assured the public that those responsible will not go unpunished.

He urged residents to stay alert and immediately report any suspicious activity to security agencies, reminding them that their cooperation is vital in keeping the community safe. He reaffirmed that operations under the National Action Plan will press forward without pause until every last militant threat is rooted out.

A major part of the police station building and the Santri Checkpost was destroyed in the suicide explosion.

Reports were received that several roofs of the adjacent buildings were also collapsed due to the explosion.

Soon after the incident, a Rescue 1122 team rushed to the site, and started relief operation.

Rescue teams were facing difficulties due to rain in the city. District Emergency Officer Bakht Khan Wazir said that the search and rescue operation will continue till the clearance of all the areas.

He said that announcements were being made through mosque loudspeakers for help, and local residents were taking part in the rescue operation.
