GB Info Minister Ghulam Abbas Vows Strong Fight Against Terrorism

GILGIT: (Web Desk) – An important meeting of the Provincial Steering Committee on Information was held at the Directorate of Information in Gilgit under the chairmanship of Caretaker Minister for Information Gilgit-Baltistan, Ghulam Abbas, where participants emphasized the need for a coordinated media strategy to counter terrorism and extremism.

Representatives from the Information Department, educational institutions, PEF-TAC, ISPR, Radio Pakistan, PTV, and other relevant organizations attended the meeting. Addressing the participants, the minister stated that combating terrorism is not possible through security measures alone, but requires a strong national narrative based on unity, social harmony, and public awareness.

The meeting decided to take practical steps in educational institutions to promote patriotism and national cohesion. It was also agreed to establish a special sub-committee to monitor social and electronic media and counter anti-state propaganda.

Furthermore, it was decided that the Health Department, Police, and Law and Prosecution departments would be included in the next meeting to formulate a comprehensive counterterrorism strategy. Participants also approved the creation of a WhatsApp group to ensure effective coordination among stakeholders.

The meeting highlighted sports and cultural activities as effective tools for promoting peace, unity, and social harmony, agreeing to expand such initiatives through public-private partnerships.

At the conclusion of the meeting, participants reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening national unity and accelerating joint efforts to build a positive and cohesive narrative against terrorism.
