Punjab Boosts Digital Learning With Internet in Schools

LAHORE: (Web Desk) – Punjab has significantly advanced its digital education drive by spending Rs103 million to provide internet connectivity in 1,078 public schools across the province. The initiative, implemented under the ASPIRE Programme, aims to strengthen digital learning infrastructure and improve access to online educational resources for both students and teachers.

Official data shows that Rs103.488 million was allocated for internet services, successfully achieving the connectivity target. This step is expected to enhance online teaching, facilitate teacher training, and expand access to digital platforms—especially as technology becomes increasingly central to education.

The ASPIRE programme, spanning 2022–2025, has a total budget of Rs6.54 billion and has reached around 67% completion. A major portion of the funding has been used for constructing 2,401 classrooms, while additional investments have been made in providing furniture and upgrading school facilities.

The initiative also focuses on improving learning environments, including the rehabilitation of toilets in 3,258 girls’ schools. On the digital front, it includes setting up 138 new IT labs, upgrading 1,078 existing labs, and installing smart LED systems in 923 schools. Additionally, around 32,000 teachers have received online training to support modern and distance learning methods.
