Miftah Ismail Criticizes Petrol Price Increase Benefiting Oil Companies
Former FM Says Petrol Price Hike Unfairly Benefits Oil Companies
ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) – Former finance minister Miftah Ismail has strongly criticized the government’s recent decision to raise petroleum prices, saying the move will mainly benefit oil marketing companies rather than the public.
He explained that the petrol and diesel currently being sold in the market were purchased by companies before February 28 at lower international prices. According to him, increasing prices now is unnecessary and effectively allows these companies to earn extra profit.

Miftah Ismail compared the situation to the government permitting sugar exports in the past, which significantly boosted the earnings of sugar mill owners.
He added that while such decisions increase profits for businesses, the financial burden ultimately falls on ordinary citizens who already face rising living costs.
