Maryam Nawaz launches Pakistan’s first e-taxi scheme nationwide
Punjab launches first e-taxi scheme empowering women, creating jobs, promoting eco-friendly travel, and ensuring safety across the province.
Punjab – (Web Desk) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has officially launched Pakistan’s first e-taxi scheme. Speaking at the inauguration, she described the initiative as a valuable employment opportunity, particularly for women in Punjab, assuring them they have nothing to fear and emphasizing their safety.
Maryam Nawaz highlighted that the e-taxi scheme will create meaningful jobs for women, allowing them to work alongside men across the province. She also announced that green buses will soon be introduced in every tehsil, and the trackless train project will commence shortly.
The Chief Minister revealed that the government has allocated a Rs4 billion subsidy for the e-taxi scheme, covering 50 percent of the down payment for male drivers and 60 percent for women. She added that drivers could earn between Rs150,000 and Rs200,000 monthly.
Describing the e-taxi program as eco-friendly, Maryam Nawaz noted that environmental pollution is now being closely monitored across Punjab. She also mentioned that Ramadan bazaars have been transformed into permanent convenience markets, supporting both community access and sustainability.
In the first phase, 1100 e-vehicles will be provided in the e-taxi scheme. About 30 percent quota is reserved for women in the e-taxi scheme. The colour of the vehicle with a lady driver will be different for women in the e-taxi scheme. In the e-taxi scheme, the Punjab government will also pay the registration, fitness test and token tax fees of the vehicles. The dues of the e-taxi scheme will be paid in five-year easy installments.

To ensure the safety of drivers and passengers, a pink button will be installed in every e-taxi, which will be linked to the Punjab Safe City Authority. The vehicles of the e-taxi scheme will be registered with InDrive and Yango.
Fast charging points will be installed for charging vehicles at public places. In the e-taxi scheme facility of digital payments will also be provided.
