Azma Bukhari Condemns Social Media Smear Against Maryam Nawaz

Punjab Minister Azma Bukhari Criticizes Coordinated Social Media Campaign Targeting Maryam Nawaz

Islamabad: (Web Desk) – Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari has strongly condemned a coordinated social media campaign targeting Maryam Nawaz, describing it as “dirty and low-level.” In a video statement, she alleged that the campaign is being run by the social media wing of opposition PTI, involving self-styled YouTubers claiming to be journalists.

Bukhari criticized these so-called journalists for spreading false content, saying such activities have tarnished the reputation of Pakistan’s media community. She added that any action against them is immediately portrayed as political revenge, while freedom of expression is misused to justify abusive material.

Highlighting the role of women’s accounts in posting objectionable content, Bukhari said attacks against Maryam Nawaz have been ongoing since 2014. “Some of those calling themselves journalists are a disgrace to the profession,” she remarked, emphasizing that her team maintains restraint and focuses only on political matters.

The minister also criticized opposition leaders for running “cheap campaigns” under false pretenses and suggested that their family backgrounds are reflected in such behavior. She expressed sympathy for the women in their families who endure such toxic conduct.

Bukhari praised Maryam Nawaz for her public service, citing initiatives such as the 40 billion-rupee Ramadan package, electric bus projects, 103 billion-rupee small business loans, Dahi Rani program, construction of 150,000 homes, creation of 150,000 jobs, and disaster relief for flood-affected areas. She asserted that these achievements show the smear campaign will have no effect on Maryam Nawaz but expose the opposition’s tactics.

The minister concluded by affirming that the Punjab Chief Minister remains unaffected by the attacks, stating, “Allah is the ultimate source of honor and respect.”
