WASHINGTON: (Web Desk) – The US Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against Harvard University on Friday, demanding access to the university’s student admissions data, continuing the Trump administration’s scrutiny of elite colleges.
Attorney General Pam Bondi stated that Harvard “has failed to disclose the data we need to ensure that its admissions are free of discrimination.”
The lawsuit follows a 2023 Supreme Court ruling that prohibited consideration of race in college admissions. The Justice Department emphasized that it is investigating whether US schools may be discriminating against white applicants, but the suit does not accuse Harvard of discrimination itself.

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon said, “If Harvard has stopped discriminating, it should happily share the data necessary to prove it.”
Earlier, former President Donald Trump demanded $1 billion in damages from Harvard, claiming it failed to protect Jewish students during pro-Palestinian protests, and stated on his platform Truth Social that he wants “nothing further to do, into the future, with Harvard University.”
Following these developments, the Pentagon cut all academic ties with Harvard. Trump had previously sought to block over $2.6 billion in federal funding to the university and restrict international student admissions, which make up about a quarter of Harvard’s student body.
