The report stated that a small heater and blower are provided during winter while hot water is available at all times.

ISLAMABAD: A report submitted to the Supreme Court by Friend of the Court Barrister Salman Safdar has revealed details of the facilities and medical condition of PTI founder Imran Khan in prison.

According to the report, Imran Khan expressed satisfaction over the security and food arrangements in jail and termed the availability of air and light in his cell satisfactory. He is provided a worker for cleaning the cell, washroom and washing clothes, and he also expressed satisfaction over cleanliness arrangements.

The report stated that a small heater and blower are provided during winter while hot water is available at all times. In summer, a room cooler is installed due to heat and humidity; however, he complained about mosquitoes and insects and said he had suffered food poisoning two to three times.

Around 10 cameras are installed outside the cell, including near the shower area, but not inside the room. Imran Khan did not object to the cameras, saying they were for his safety. A 30×12-foot green area is also available near the cell for sunlight.

Regarding meals, he receives coffee, porridge and dates for breakfast and can choose a weekly menu at his own expense. Chicken is served twice a week, meat twice, and lentils or snacks on other days, while bottled water is also provided. He said he usually eats fruits, milk and dates at night and is not allowed to keep utensils inside the cell.

He follows a daily routine of breakfast at 9:45am and reading the Holy Quran for an hour. Limited exercise equipment is available, including a machine and 9-kg stones. He remains inside the cell from 5:30pm to 10pm and has been provided about 100 books and a 32-inch television set, which he said was not functional.

The report also stated that he had not undergone a dental check-up for two years. Regarding meetings, he said he was unable to meet his lawyers for five months and family meetings were restricted, though after a change of the jail superintendent he now meets his wife once a week for 30 minutes. He also spoke to his sons Qasim and Salman twice by telephone in 2025.

On medical issues, Imran Khan said his eyesight deteriorated after October 2025 and the vision in his right eye has reduced to about 15 percent due to a suspected blood clot. He complained that for three months he was treated only with eye drops and requested examination by his personal physicians or an eye specialist, along with regular blood tests considering his age.

During the hearing, the Chief Justice remarked that as a state prisoner he should receive the same medical facilities as other inmates but no extraordinary concessions. Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan assured the court that access to an eye specialist and telephone contact with his children would be arranged.

The court directed authorities to complete these measures before February 16, allowing examination by an eye specialist while rejecting the request for medical examination in the presence of a family member, stating that provision of healthcare remains the responsibility of the state.
