UN chief condemns deadly attack on Islamabad worshippers

UN condemns Islamabad mosque attack, urges justice, mourns victims, supports Pakistan against terrorism and violent extremism nationwide during Friday prayers

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio – (Web Desk) -United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly denounced the suicide attack on worshippers at a mosque in Islamabad.

In a message shared by the UN spokesperson on X, he emphasized that targeting civilians and places of worship is completely unacceptable.

Guterres called for those responsible to be identified and held accountable, while also expressing heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and wishing a swift and full recovery to the injured.

He reaffirmed the solidarity of the United Nations with the government and people of Pakistan in their efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism.

Meanwhile, the United Nations has denounced the “terrorist attack” against an Imambargah in Tarlai area of Islamabad during Friday prayers.

“We condemn this terrorist attack and reiterate that all places of worship should be kept safe from such violence,” Spokesperson Farhan Haq said in a statement on Friday.
