Australia to Close Afghan Embassy Amid Taliban Isolation
Australia Shuts Afghan Embassy as Taliban Face Growing Global Isolation
SYDNEY: (Web Desk) – Afghanistan is facing deepening international isolation as Australia announced the closure of the Afghan embassy, becoming the latest country to distance itself from the Taliban regime.
According to Australian media reports, including SBS News and the National Tribune, the Afghan embassy in Australia will cease all diplomatic activities after June 2026.
Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade stated that it will not recognise any diplomats or representatives appointed by the Taliban, reiterating that Canberra does not view the Taliban government as the legitimate representative of the Afghan people.

Australian authorities have repeatedly condemned the Taliban for serious human rights violations, particularly restrictions on women and the suppression of dissent. The Refugee Council of Australia warned that conditions inside Afghanistan have deteriorated sharply, with citizens fearful of approaching Taliban-run institutions even for basic documentation.
Analysts say the embassy closure reflects growing global mistrust of the Taliban and signals Afghanistan’s increasing diplomatic and economic isolation as more countries downgrade or sever official ties.
