CM Maryam Nawaz Orders Immediate Action Against Dangerous Electric Wires in Punjab
Maryam Nawaz reviewed a proposal to divide Lahore into three zones
Lahore: (Web Desk/ Our Correspondent)- Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed authorities to take immediate and comprehensive measures to eliminate short circuits, electrocution, and fire-related accidents across the province. She emphasized that she will not wait for tragic incidents to occur before acting.
The Chief Minister instructed officials to remove hazardous and unsightly overhead electric wires from markets and densely populated areas to ensure public safety. She called for the preparation of a master plan to eradicate incidents of electrical accidents, starting with Lahore, where efforts will focus on clearing dangerous and dangling wires from inner-city areas, particularly ahead of Basant celebrations.
Maryam Nawaz also stressed that alternative electricity arrangements must be ensured to prevent citizens from facing power outages during the operation of burying electricity lines. She reviewed a proposal to divide Lahore into three zones and implement underground electricity wiring, deciding in principle to make underground wiring mandatory in all housing schemes.
A steering committee has been formed, comprising Provincial Minister Faisal Khokhar, administrative officers, and officials from LESCO, Housing, and Local Government departments, to oversee the project.

The Chief Minister sought an emergency safety plan to prevent fires and fatalities caused by electrical faults. LESCO officials informed her that Lahore has over 40,000 km of electricity wires and 50,000 km of internet cables, many of which are causing accidents, especially during rains.
“Public safety is the foremost responsibility of the government,” she said, referring to tragedies like Karachi’s Gul Plaza fire. She added that untidy electrical wires are not only an eyesore but a constant threat to human life.
